For the shortest month of the year, February really packed it in. Of course being in New Orleans the month found Carnival in full swing. The parades this year were amazing as were the people. Unfortunately it was cold. Now I know we are from Michigan, and relative to that, it was a heat wave. But that did not help the kids as they sat on their ladders waiting for the parades.
Then you add in the Saints. How can I start to put into words the relationship this region has with this football team. As I lived through the excitement of the season leading to the Super Bowl I quickly learned it was about more than football. This team had come to stand for all of the pain and suffering during the “Ain’t” days and now the joy of re birth with a championship. It was amazing to watch people’s heart heal with every passing victory. New Orleans, you can stand with your head held high. You bow to no one. Crunk it up!
The month ended with a good story, the Olympics, and a sad story, the earthquake in Chile. Aside from one spoiled Russian skater, the athletes proved what it was to be an Olympian. No matter what country they came from, they could be proud of their efforts.
And of course our hearts go out to the folks in Chile. It’s amazing when you look at it how powerful nature can be.
Have a good March; we’ll see you on the other end.
Frank
