Leaving New Orleans

Packin my bags, takin it slow
Gotta leave, man don't wanna go
My work here is done, yes boss I'm through
never thought, it be this hard to do

Crescent lady, fierce and she's proud
Faced the storms, but never stayed down
People here, are gritty and strong
If you’re from here, you don't stay gone long

I'm leaving New Orleans, not much to do
Leaving New Orleans, singing the blues
Friends that I made here, true don't you know
Gonna miss this city, down to my soul

They don't know no strangers, they welcome us all
No matter how rich, or wallet too small
The food it will please you, down to the bone
And while you are here, you're never alone

Down in the Quarter, jazz fills the air
The party just starting, meet you boys there
Here there is living, life to the full
Even the dead, will party with you

Round the corner, sits Jackson Square
Your fortune for telling, and artist be there
God and the devil, both sing her tune
Hell, even Elvis, will come back real soon

I'm leaving New Orleans, not much to do
Leaving New Orleans, singing the blues
Friends that I made here, true don't you know
Gonna miss this city, down to my soul

Sunday Drive to Grand Isle
By Franks Blog on DDSI | February 14, 2011 at 03:24 PM EST | No Comments

Many of you became familiar with Grand Isle LA. From the almost nonstop coverage of the BP oil spill.  Like you, I was alarmed to see the damage the escaping oil was doing to the marshes and the beaches of this great little vacation resort.  Yesterday Jan and I decided to take a Sunday drive down scenic LA1 down to Grand Isle and check on how things were.

First, the drive will take you around 2 to 3 hours depending how many times you stop for pictures (Jan took almost 400).  Grand Isle is at the very tip of La1 and in winter it really is a sleepy little seaside resort.  Many of the Camps (We call them cottages up north) were closed up but we had fun reading their names.  Just like we boaters name our boats, folks who own camps here name them too.  There was six pack, Southern living, say ahhhh, and many more.

There is also a great state park (Grand Isle State park) at the tip of the island.  For our RV friends the park has a nice RV site with pump out and bath house (super clean).  It also is over the levee to the beach and fishing pier.  Jan and I spent a good hour taking pictures of a pod of dolphins and so great pelican sightings.  Jan loves pelicans and I think she even got her fill.

After a while we called it quits and ate at one of only two restaurants open in the winter, Star Fish grill.  The other restaurant is Sarah’s but we will save that one for next time.  We wish all our friends could have been with us but it makes us look forward to seeing them all this summer at the Marina.

Winter in New Orleans
By Franks Blog on DDSI | February 12, 2011 at 11:01 AM EST | No Comments

Winter in New Orleans is a great time.  Yes it's warmer then Michigan but that's just the start.  Right now the town is gearing up for Mardi Gras and if you have not been here for that, you really need to come down.
