It's easier to hate then to love

I was in New York for an event hosted by Bank of America. As part of the event we had a reception at the BoA tower where we got some breathtaking views of the city.

One of those views looks down towards the new Freedom tower.  As I looked at it my mind was drawn back to that horrible day on 9/11 when once again the world was subjected to the evil that dwells in us all, as a madman unleashed his hatred upon innocent lives.

We had people in those towers as did many who work in the Financial Services world or have family and people we love in New York. The reaction was swift. Anger, hatred, and the desire to seek revenge. All valid. All logical. Yet with the passing of time. I can't help but think as I look at that spot how much easier it is to hate then to love.

Hating is easy. You see someone that does not look like us, talk like us, believe like us, or love like us, and too often our opinions are formed before we ever take the time to get to know who they are as a person.

We have all done it. But the difference is, or I like to believe it is, when we have those thoughts we recognize them for what they, are and quickly chastise ourselves and look below the easy surface view.

Love on the other hand is hard. Love requires that we accept others for whom and what they are. It requires us to put ourselves aside and focus on others. It requires understanding and trust. It requires us to be vulnerable. Man that's hard.

Love is never easy but I for one think it is so worth it. Each of us has to decide, not once, but everyday, do I want easy and follow the ways of hate, or do I want hard and embrace a life of love and tolerance.

For me I rather take the hard road.  I rather embrace love and see the world for what it really is. A beautiful place to be.

My love to you all.
